SILVER COMET CLOSED; DETOURS REQUIRED

Repairs of September 2009 storm damage have begun and are continuing on the Silver Comet Trail in mile 15 through March. Approximately a mile of the trail will be CLOSED during this time. A detour has been constructed which will cause trail travelers to use Weddington Road. Please do not venture into the construction site. Use the detours. Construction crews will be expediting their work to restore the trail bed washed away by the flood. They do not have time to dodge trail users who refuse to follow the detour. Paulding County and PATH appreciate your cooperation.

we were wondering when the work was going to start – saw all the work being done to prep the detour and the heavy equipment being placed. Glad that the work is being done. You guys do a great job of keeping the trail operating.

I posted a video of the detour at the link below. I apologize for the quality, but all I had with me was my phone-cam.

Please post “Use Buddy System” on mile markers or rule markers. Many people believe there is no crime on the trail, so they go alone. People would stop being targets if there was someone with them.

We do have signs on the more recently finished sections that remind people to be sure to have a buddy. Maybe as old signs get replaced the counties will consider adding that text. Thanks.
