Welcome to the PATH Foundation

Walkers on the Atlanta/DeKalb Trail

Save the Date! - Sept. 27 - the Grand Opening of America's longest paved trail

It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here - the completed Silver Comet/Chief Ladiga Trail, stretching 95 miles from Atlanta to Anniston, Alabama. We'd love for you to join us at the Grand Opening festivities, including an historic 61.5-mile ride. For complete details, head over to the Silver Comet page.

In 1991, it was just an idea ...

...a network of off-road trails in and around Atlanta for walkers, runners, cyclists and skaters. A series of scenic greenways to preserve our region’s forested character and offer opportunities for families to enjoy nature together. A way to connect neighborhoods to each other, to get people out of their cars, to encourage healthier lifestyles and to improve our quality of life.

Building Trails, Building Community

The PATH Foundation is transforming this vision into reality. In just fifteen years, PATH has developed more than 100 miles of trails throughout northern Georgia and has become a nationally recognized model for trail-building success. PATH’s linear parks have become part of the landscape in urban and rural areas, in affluent and impoverished communities. PATH trails are bringing people together from all races, ages, income levels and cultural backgrounds.

A Proven Track Record

Public support for the PATH Foundation continues to grow. With a lean and efficient administrative structure, PATH spends more than 90 percent of the donations it receives on trail building, demonstrating its ability to complete projects ahead of schedule, under budget, while leveraging significant public funding.

PATH trails enhance community spirit and bring neighborhoods together. Each day, thousands of joggers, walkers, bikers and skaters from all walks of life escape the roads and hit the trails for travel and recreation. The demand for trails has increased dramatically as our citizens look for safer ways to exercise, recreate and reconnect with their neighbors.

PATH has made significant progress toward building Georgia a network of trails, including: The Silver Comet, Stone Mountain, Lionel Hampton, Westside, Arabia Mountain, Chastain Park, South Decatur Trolley, Northwest Atlanta, and Freedom Park Trails.
