PATH crews are in the final stages of construction of a ninety foot long tunnel under Bouldercrest Road to facilitate extension of the South River Trail to Intrenchment Creek and ultimately to the Atlanta BeltLine. The tunnel will allow safe passage under Bouldercrest Road rather than a crossing at-grade above. This project was funded entirely from your donations to PATH.
In 2011, DeKalb County and PATH completed the South River Trail from Clifton Church Road to the east end of the tunnel. Later this year, the same partnership will build another phase of the trail from the west end of the tunnel to Constitution Avenue and the Atlanta RC Club, an airfield for radio controlled aircraft. A full-service trailhead will be built near the intersection of Bouldercrest Road and Constitution Avenue to serve the extended trail. Funding for the trailhead is being provided by the DeKalb County Greenspace program.
The South River Trail is also being extended eastward from Clifton Church Road to Georgia Perimeter College on Panthersville Road using Transportation Enhancement funding from Georgia DOT. Construction on this segment will begin in 2013.
