East Decatur Greenway

Construction along the East Decatur Greenway

The East Decatur Greenway will connect the Avondale MARTA station and the Stone Mountain Trail to multiple neighborhoods south along Katie Kerr Drive and Columbia Drive in Decatur. The PATH design team worked closely with Columbia Residential and their site planners to enhance the trail’s interaction with the transit oriented development (TOD) planned for the property on College Street across the tracks from the MARTA station. Commuting cyclists will be able to exit the station on the pedestrian bridge over College Street, retrieve their bicycle from covered bicycle parking, and ride through the new development and down the trail to the many neighborhoods along Katie Kerr Drive and Columbia Drive. The trail will provide safe, easy access from these neighborhoods to MARTA for walkers as well. This $750,000 project was started in November and will be completed by May, 2017. It is being funded by East Decatur Greenway, DeKalb County HOST, and your contributions to PATH. The City of Decatur may decide to extend the trail along Columbia Drive toward Memorial Drive. The community has expressed interest in connecting the East Decatur Greenway project to Shoal Creek near Dearborn Park.
