Later this month, PATH crews will erect the bridge over Peachtree Creek at Dellwood Drive for the Northwest BeltLine Connector Trail. The new bridge will connect Peachtree Battle neighborhoods to Tanyard Park, the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center, and restaurants along Peachtree Street near Colonial Homes Drive. When the Atlanta BeltLine trail is completed, this bridge will connect Peachtree Battle neighbors to the entire BeltLine loop.
The 300 foot-long bridge will connect the dead end of Dellwood Drive just a block south of Woodward Way to Dellwood Drive near Colonial Homes. The bridge will be an important component of the planned, 2.04 mile-long, circumferential trail around the golf course. The loop will be complete when the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) opens the new trail bridge over the creek at Northside Drive late next year.
The current PATH project, including the 300 foot bridge, will be completed this fall. The GDOT project to replace the road bridge and build a new trail bridge at Northside Drive is scheduled to begin this fall and be completed in 2019. PATH will subsequently partner with GDOT and the City of Atlanta to build a cross-under trail on the south side of the creek to connect Wesley Drive to the trail, alleviating the need for Atlanta Memorial Park neighbors to cross Northside Drive to access the trail around Bobby Jones.
The Northwest BeltLine Connector Trail is being funded by the City of Atlanta TSPLOST program and your donations to PATH. Funding for the cross-under trail has not been identified at this time; however, PATH will likely include partial funding for the underpass in a future fundraising campaign.
